I wouldn’t mind taking advantage of a few of those. Too bad I don’t have the cash, I’d love to get my wife a MacBook Air.

EDIT: Come to find out that she doesn’t want a MacBook Air, she now feels it’s too small. She wants a 15″ MacBook Pro.

So I went to log on to my laptop today so I could check e-mail and finish a couple projects before work and I find myself staring at a blank screen that won’t come on. I try restarting the computer a few times, and even go so far as to connect an external moniter. Nothing. I let my wife know she won’t get to play on my laptop today and that there’s something wrong with it. At that point I’m figuring there’s something wrong with the video card because I’m not even getting a hint of image on the LCD and nothing is showing up on the external. Sure enough, I get to work and check apple support to find this. Looks like I need to get my laptop to Cupertino… or a certified tech that I can trust.

*No Offense is intended by the title because it’s apparently NVIDIA

I’m not a huge fan of TD Curran, our local “Apple Specialists”. I’ve heard too many bad stories about them and can’t recall any actual recommendations for them. The only reason I believe they’re still in business is because they’re the primary source in town for Macs. That is to say, there are other places you can purchase Macs, but as far as knowledge from a retail outlet goes, they’re the sad excuse for an authority.

I have only made a purchase from them once.

But I digress, the real reason that I’m writing is to give praises to my preferred non-Apple Store retailer. PoweMax. They’re relatively local being based out of Portland, and being based in Portland that means they’re Tax-Free. In addition to the standbys of fast, friendly, and knowledgeable, they also possess a trait which makes them even more appealing to me. They’re lighthearted. As evidence for this I offer up the Email sent to me on receipt of an item that I purchased from them that wouldn’t work with my system like I thought it would.

Eric Iverson

We’re emailing you to let you know that your package has been received. We still have to open it and process everything (hopefully without someone holding their stomach in fits of laughter while pointing to it saying, ‘Hey come look at the way they packaged this!’). But now you can rest easy that at least it is safely ensconced in our RMA department. We’ll email you again once we get it opened and processed.

It’s Sunday and I’m tired. This weekend is going by too slow and too fast all at the same time. After working the whole day my computer has only uploaded about 30 GB of my 150 GB music cache. I should probably stop it and try to continue another way.

New laptop supposedly will be here Tuesday sometime. Last update to the FedEx tracking site was Saturday at 7:34 AM from Redding, CA saying that it was “in transit.” It originally departed from Sacramento, CA at 2:22 that same morning. I hope it’s damn close tomorrow. If it says it’s in Burlington tomorrow morning I may see about the possibility of picking it up tomorrow from there, why it hasn’t said it’s left Redding is beyond me.

I’m still tired.

Good: A 15″ MacBook Pro is in my near future. With any luck I’ll have it by the 25th.

Bad: The down side to a MacBook Pro being in my near future is that; A) it means selling my PowerBook G4, and B) I probably won’t have a comic up on the 27th.

Knowing this far in advance should enable me to work ahead a bit one would think. Sadly though one would most likely be wrong. I say this because at present I expect to be unable to post a comic tomorrow because of my stupid work week last week, further I expect to be unable to post a comic on the 20th as I have one day off this upcoming week and 2 paying projects that I’m basically giving myself till the 18th to finish, as I expect to sell my PowerBook on the 19th.

Ugly: So, it looks like I may be taking as much as the next 3 or 4 weeks off if anyone wants to do guest strips.

Every week the iTunes Music Store puts up a few songs and videos that are available to iTunes users for free. The new songs go up every Tuesday. The thought is to showcase new music for free, some from groups you haven’t heard of, some from groups you have.

Anyhow, last week they featured 2 songs by 2 different groups. One was nothing to write home about, the other was The Puppini Sisters. Specifically the song “Walk like an Egyptian” off their second album The Rise And Fall Of Ruby Woo. The Puppini Sisters cover Egyptian in the same way I’d expect the Andrews Sisters to. Their music is basically a mix of song covers spanning half a century of popular music, each with a 1940s style close harmony feel.

For the time being, they’re my new favorite group, and I highly recommend them.

Well, I’ve finally had a chance to troubleshoot my laptop and fortunately it looks to be simply an issue with the power cord. I like the idea of an $80 fix instead of an $80+ fix. Unfortunately I’m still recovering from Christmas so it looks like it will be another couple weeks before I can order the part. Then I’m probably looking at another week or so before it’d come in.

The new laptop I’m looking at getting is gonna run me just over $3000, I’m hoping that I can get the cash for that by late April or early May, preferably sooner.

I think I should start looking into government business startup grants. I really want to be able to make a living doing what I enjoy, instead of what I have to do.
