Yorky’s is having this promotional deal with Haggen where if you spend $50 at Haggen, you get 10¢ per gallon (up to 25 gallons) taken off your bill.
That means more paperwork for me. We have to have double copies of all receipts, triple if it’s a credit card or debit card. Then there’s the coupon itself. Everybody who has to deal with this is supposed to separate out the different Haggen locations and fill out documentation as to where it’s from, how many gallons were pumped, how much the discount was, what the total bill was, who took the coupon, which Yorky’s (or Exxon) the coupon was taken at… and I think I’m forgetting something.
There’s also a degree of added stress, if for no other reason than the fact that I have to deal with the same people, asking the same questions, over and over again. People aren’t taking in their surroundings and seeing the 5 30″x40″ posters advertising the coupon. People aren’t noticing the 8 7″x13″ signs placed above each gas pump, let alone the one taking up residence in the window. People can’t seem to see the 2 9″x12″ signs, one by the register and the other in another window, giving a full explanation of the deal. People seem to be illiterate when it comes to the 4 word instructions on the coupon and every sign. Pump first. Pay inside.
So there’s a degree of stress. And there’s additional paperwork. And Yorkston Oil has a rather limited viewpoint on the benefits of recycling… which is to say, they recycle boxes and that’s it. From my understanding, only one store recycles anything other than boxes, and that’s only because SSC fills up at their station. Apparently it’s simply not enough of a cost effective program.
So the thing I was getting at is that no one is actually being reimbursed for the coupon.
A fair amount extra paperwork for the clerks, store managers, and main office staff, and Haggen isn’t reimbursing Yorkston Oil the 10¢ per gallon. Not even a portion of it. The coupon isn’t bringing in a significant number of new customer, and of the few new ones it’s brought in, most won’t be/aren’t returning customers.
I find it offensive enough to have extra work for someone else’s benefit. It’s worse when no one is actually benefiting from the extra work that I’m doing.
